Wordsmith Apprentice at Timberdoodle Review!
I was too!
My 11 year old is a charismatic, socially charged, colorful individual. Shouldn’t he have a curriculum to match?
Right off the bat, I knew he’d enjoy Wordsmith Apprentice….
TO THE STUDENT
“Writing is one of the most important skills you will ever learn. Whether you like it or not, at times in your life you will be called upon to express your thoughts in writing. Just suppose:
You are asked why you want a certain job.
You want to send your mother a special birthday or holiday greeting.
Your local hang-gliding club volunteers you to write the club history.
Your boss demands a report on sewing needle factories in South America (due tomorrow).
You are called upon to teach a Sunday school class.
You want to convince someone to marry you.
All of these will be much easier if you know how to write down your own thoughts.”
Written to the student, Wordsmith Apprentice is self-directed, teaching “writing excellence through unique, skill-building exercises.”
Organized into three main sections, your student will utilize real-life exercises progressing from nouns, verbs & basic sentence structure to modifiers & more complex sentences to organizing & reporting.
This “learning” is done in stealth mode as he/she becomes a member of a fictitious newspaper working through various ‘journalism type’ exercises. Plus, it’s just plain fun!
After my son wrote a help wanted ad for someone to train his frogs and another for someone to do his school work, he was hooked! As a bonus, he loved being able to work through the book on his own with minimal oversight from Mom!
As a member of Timberdoodle’s Blogger Review Team I received a free copy of Wordsmith Apprentice in exchange for a frank and unbiased review.
