I have been happily married for 14 years and have been homeschooling since the beginning at my husband’s suggestion. The homeschooling lifestyle is far more challenging and also far more beautiful than I could ever have imagined. It is a constant stretching and falling and rising and sighing and rejoicing… and I would never have it any other way. For a few other details about who I am, read this “25 things about me” post from 2009: http://mamaslittleditty.blogspot.com/2009/11/dreams-redeemed.html
Why do you blog?
I have about six answers for this. My motivations have changed over time as has my commitment. I have given it up twice, only to pick up again. I began blogging partly to do some PR for my Etsy shop and partly because it looked like fun and I was curious. I blog now for totally different reasons, the primary of which is that it helps keep me focused on my vocation as wife, mother, teacher and also because it keeps me linked with those who can support me in this journey. Writing is cathartic and healing for me. It is also clarifying. When I can’t sleep or function because of the jumble of thought and emotion, I write. Public expression connects me with Christ in others and keeps me accountable. I also blog to keep myself aware of the great blessings of life in Christ and to stir the gratitude in my heart and stoke the fires of discipleship. Sometimes the fingerprints of God can become hidden by our own messes… blogging dusts off the countertops of my mind and helps me see Him more clearly. I enjoy frequent blogging and will often post daily or at least multiple times per week. This is not always possible depending on the needs of my family but I always seem to get back to it before long.
Why do you homeschool?
We homeschool for the following reasons: Faith Family Character formation Education Socialization There are negative reasons (such as the decay of our institutional schools) but the positives are so beautiful and good that I would still homeschool even if I lived next door to a fantastic and wholesome school.
Do you have any home businesses?
I love to sew and craft; baby things, mommy things, jewelry… anything pretty and useful. I do have a shop on Etsy but have been largely inactive in the last year, choosing to spend the best part of my energy on my family and homeschool. I did recently open again to try to raise money for a Christmas present for my husband and expect my presence will come and go with the ebb and flow of life.
