I recently had the opportunity to join the blogger review team for Timberdoodle, a curriculum supply company for homeschoolers run by a homeschool family. They have a really great site with options for everything from individual curriculum items to complete Core Curriculums for Pre-k to High School. It was during one of my many trips to their site that I discovered the importance of providing Thinking Skills training to my children. I ended up purchasing a Thinking Skills book for my daughter as well as logic based math book for my son.

As a part of the review team, I will be sent materials to preview for you and give an honest feedback on what my family liked and disliked about these products. I am not being paid to endorse the items I am sent, but I do receive each item at no charge.

So, my first review for you is A kid’s Guide to Drawing the Presidents of the USA. This textbook series is geared to children 8-12 and provides some very simple instructions on how to draw such things as the president, his home, and items related to his mark on history. My 8 year old and I previewed the volume about President Monroe. She spent time reading the book and then chose to draw a picture of President Monroe from the American Revolution.

She told me the book was easy to read and she enjoyed it. I also enjoyed reading the book and learned some facts I didn’t know about Monroe.  I discovered that he had a big part in forming the Country of Liberia as a home to freed African American slaves, and that their capital Monrovia is named after him. While the instructions for the drawings in the book were very straight forward, my daughter, being on the younger side of the age range, did find it a bit challenging. I encouraged her to simply do her best and she relaxed and set to the task at hand.
Upon reading this textbook I was pleased to discover that it is a very good history book as well as a drawing guide. It provided a variety of techniques and a complete list the tools needed to make the drawings. It had a diverse selection of subjects of various difficulty levels to choose from. I give it a thumbs up and highly recommend it to you. I believe it will be a great asset for those with creative or visual spatial learners as text is bold and limited. If my son were a bit older, I think this would be right up his alley, as he loves nothing more than to draw and create things.
I suggest a visit to the Timberdoodle site if you are interested in learning more about this and other homeschool products available for sale.
