Joy In Our Journey

Julieanne of Joy In Our Journey
I resigned from 5 years of public school teaching in 1995, a few months after marrying my best friend, Elmer, so I could have more time to be at home without grading papers and lesson planning! Worked at an educational office for several more years until our first child was born. I’ve wanted to be a wife, mom, teacher, writer, and chef for years and years, and now I’m able to do all of these at home! This is truly living my dream, to be at home with my children as they grow. I am always learning something new – and I love it!

Why do you homeschool?
We began to homeschool our oldest when she was in kindergarten – mainly because we couldn’t afford private school, we weren’t going to consider public school as an option since I’m a former public school teacher, and she was academically advanced for her age. After a couple of years of educating at home, our mission changed. Instead of merely wanting to teach our girls who were more advanced than some of their peers, we wanted to educate at home for the purpose of handing down our Christian faith to our daughters. That is our #1 goal, now, but we still promote higher academic standards as well.

Why do you blog?
I first set up a blog because I had been hired as a member of “The Old Schoolhouse” magazine’s TOS Crew in 2008. It was all brand new to me, and I loved sharing my opinions and views of what curricula and homeschooling products we were using in our home! However, I wanted to share my love of homeschooling along with raising godly children and living frugally with others as a ministry, so I expanded my blog into a new website where it now remains as a website with an attached blog (www.JoyInOurJourney.com). My frequency of blogging varies. Sometimes, I’ll blog 3-4 times a week, and sometimes it’s once a week. During vacation times and holidays, I usually don’t blog so I may spend more time with my husband and children. I do enjoy blogging and seeing how others are using some of my free learning files and information!
