Honestly in our homeschool, we have never truly used an art program.  When I was contacted to review Simply Draw with Bob Parsons, I thought, hey, this could be a lot of fun, and a nice change from our daily grind.  That was an understatement.  Philip , my ten year old, a fifth grade dysgraphic child is LOVING this.  I have to hide it so we can get chores and other school done.  One of my many hopes, is this will help him to be able to process better when it comes to writing and other academic functions.

The whole program is step by step, with easy to follow instructions.  There is a dvd that has short videos to show examples of the different techniques presented in the book. The DVD, also contains  pdf files of pages you can print for your entire immediate family.  There is even a section about hand lettering.

I am not having my son draw in the book, but on a separate piece of high quality paper.  This program is so nice, I want to have it to use for all my children.

Here is what my son, Philip had to say:

“It is fun and I enjoy the cartoons”

“The instructions are simple.  I like them like this as it is easier to read and understand.  I am learning a lot from this.”

“My drawing is looking like real drawing, I am good at something.”

Simply Draw with Bob Parsons is available from Timberdoodle for $37.95. It was written for children and adults ages eight and up.   Timberdoodle even offers art supplies and other art products that would be a good supplement to use with Simply Draw with Bob Parsons.  Simply Draw with Bob Parsons comes unbound three hole punched ready to be placed in a three ring binder.  I have a comb binder and decided rather then purchasing a three ring binder, to just comb bind it and it is working nicely.  The book contains 200 pages of instruction, the DVD contains nearly three hours of instruction.  Please note that the DVD will only work on the computer, so you must have a DVD drive on your computer to use the DVD.  From my experience, the DVD is not mandatory, but it is extremely helpful and definitely a core aspect of this curriculum.

We will be continuing to use Simply Draw with Bob Parsons through the year.  I will introduce it to my other children when they are a bit older.

Disclosure:

I received this product free in return for my honest review. I will receive no other compensation.
